This map book goes along with Housing Development and Abandonment in New Orleans since 1960, which provides a historical perspective of the city’s development and an analysis of recent demographic trends crucial to informing city housing policy and blight reduction strategies. The first six maps illustrate the growth of households in exurban and suburban parishes in the New Orleans metro over the last fifty years. The last four maps reveal that New Orleans’ household population has declined as well as spread out toward suburban areas within city limits, causing a “hollowing out” of neighborhoods in New Orleans’ historic core.
