In this briefing on the New Orleans Index at Six, Dr. Allison Plyer of the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center explains that despite three major shocks, greater New Orleans is rebounding, and in some ways, “better than before.” Yet, the data also reveals some disturbing trends. New Orleans and its partners must sustain and expand on reform efforts underway. These efforts have significant potential to increase standards of living. But these reforms have been aided by massive federal rebuilding investments. Over the long term New Orleans will need a stronger economy in order to further prosperity and inclusion in the region.
