Step-by-step guide to getting 2006 American Community Survey data

Getting to the Census web site

  1. Print this page, get on the Web and go to www.census.gov

  2. In the left column, click on .

  3. In the left column, mouse over .

  4. Click on .

  5. Choose Image of 2006 ACS radio button.

  6. With '2006 American Community Survey' chosen, in the light grey box to the right, click Data Profiles link.

  7. On the next page, the first item should look like this: .


Choosing a Parish

    Instructions for getting Parish-level data

    • Choose from the drop-down menu.

    • The next item is: . Choose from the drop-down menu.

    • The next item is: . The box below it lists all the parishes in Louisiana.

    • Use the arrows to scroll down, then select the parish you want by clicking its name.
      Here's an example using Jefferson Parish: .

Choosing what type of data you want

  1. Now you are looking at a table of selected socal characteristics of this parish.  It includes household types, relationships, marital status, etc.

Printing your data

  1. Once you have your data, you will want to print. At the top right of the screen, click on .

  2. Move your cursor down to choose .

  3. Now you've got your data. Congratulations!

If you are including the numbers in a publication of any kind (including grant proposals and reports), make sure you cite the source: American Community Survey 2006.
